Changing Nameservers for Your Domain

📅 2025-10-01

Why Nameservers Matter

When you register a domain name, it doesn’t automatically know where your website or services are hosted. Instead, the domain uses nameservers to point traffic to the correct infrastructure. Think of nameservers as the GPS of the internet: when someone types your domain into their browser, nameservers guide the request to the correct server.

If your nameservers are not set up properly, visitors may encounter errors, delays, or may even be redirected to the wrong place. This is why updating your nameservers to Eurora Cloud’s infrastructure is a critical step. By doing so, you ensure that your domain takes full advantage of our managed DNS, Content Delivery Network (CDN), and advanced security features such as DNSSEC and automatic HTTPS.

Changing nameservers is not complicated, but it is crucial. Once your domain points to Eurora Cloud, we can provide fast, reliable, and secure resolution of DNS queries across the globe.

Before You Begin

Before changing nameservers, you need to:

  1. Verify Domain Ownership: Make sure your domain is registered in your name and that you have full control of the registrar account.

  2. Check Current DNS Setup: Note down existing records (A, MX, CNAME, TXT, etc.). These may be needed if you plan to replicate them on Eurora Cloud.

  3. Plan for Propagation: Understand that DNS changes take time to propagate across the internet. While changes may appear within minutes, full propagation can take up to 48 hours. During this time, some visitors may still reach the old server while others are directed to the new one.

  4. Access to Registrar Panel: Ensure you can log in to the registrar where your domain was purchased.

Locate Your Domain Registrar

Your domain registrar is the company where you originally purchased your domain name (e.g., GoDaddy, Namecheap, Google Domains, OVH, or others). If you’re unsure who your registrar is, you can perform a WHOIS lookup, which will display the registrar information for your domain.

Once you know your registrar, log into the account dashboard. Each registrar’s interface looks slightly different, but all of them provide an option to manage DNS settings or nameservers.

Find the Nameserver Settings

After logging into your registrar’s dashboard:

  1. Locate your list of registered domains.

  2. Select the domain you want to connect to Eurora Cloud.

  3. Look for an option like “Manage DNS,” “Nameserver Settings,” or “Advanced Settings.”

  4. You should see the current nameservers assigned to your domain. These often look like ns1.registrar.com and ns2.registrar.com.

You’ll need to replace these with Eurora Cloud’s nameservers.

Update to Eurora Cloud Nameservers

Replace your current nameservers with Eurora Cloud’s provided ones. Typically, they look like this:

  • ns1.euroracloud.com

  • ns2.euroracloud.com

Some registrars require at least two nameservers, while others allow three or four for redundancy. Eurora Cloud provides a minimum of two, ensuring fault tolerance and availability.

After entering the new nameservers, save your changes. Some registrars may prompt you to confirm via email or SMS for security purposes.

Understand Propagation

When you update nameservers, the changes must propagate across the global DNS infrastructure. This process ensures that all internet service providers (ISPs) update their caches with your new configuration.

  • Immediate: Some users will see the changes within minutes.

  • Partial: Within 4–12 hours, most regions will resolve to the new configuration.

  • Complete: It may take up to 48 hours for the entire internet to reflect the changes.

During propagation, some visitors may reach the old server while others access the new one. This is normal and temporary. If you need zero downtime, consider configuring both environments during the transition period.

Verify the Change

After updating nameservers, you should verify that the change has been applied correctly. Eurora Cloud provides built-in tools for verification, but you can also use external services like:

  • WHOIS Lookup: Confirms the nameservers associated with your domain.

  • DNS Propagation Checkers: Show how your domain resolves across multiple global locations.

  • Command-Line Tools: Use dig or nslookup to manually check the authoritative nameservers.

Once verification confirms that your domain points to Eurora Cloud, you can proceed to configure additional DNS records within our dashboard.

Configure DNS Records

With your nameservers updated, Eurora Cloud now controls the DNS resolution for your domain. You’ll need to set up records for your website and services:

  • A Records: Point your domain to the correct IP address.

  • CNAME Records: Alias one domain to another (e.g., www to root).

  • MX Records: Direct email traffic to the correct mail servers.

  • TXT Records: Often used for verification, SPF, DKIM, or DMARC.

All records are managed in Eurora Cloud’s dashboard, allowing you to make changes instantly without depending on registrar delays.

Benefits of Eurora Cloud Nameservers

Switching to Eurora Cloud’s nameservers provides several advantages:

  1. Performance: Global infrastructure ensures low-latency DNS lookups.

  2. Security: Built-in DNSSEC protects against hijacking and spoofing.

  3. Reliability: Redundant servers across multiple regions guarantee uptime.

  4. Control: A unified dashboard gives you full visibility and management.

  5. Scalability: Designed for small personal sites up to enterprise-grade applications.

By routing all DNS traffic through Eurora Cloud, your visitors experience faster response times, your site gains resilience against attacks, and you simplify the management of your domain.

Common Issues and Troubleshooting

  1. Registrar Caching: Some registrars delay applying changes. If updates don’t appear, wait a few hours and check again.

  2. Propagation Delays: Full propagation can take up to 48 hours; patience is key.

  3. Incorrect Entry: Ensure there are no typos in the nameservers. Even a single wrong character can cause resolution failures.

  4. Locked Domain: Some registrars lock domains by default. Unlock before attempting changes.

  5. Email Disruption: If you forget to configure MX records, email delivery may break. Always re-add critical records immediately.

Best Practices

  • Always note down your old nameservers before making changes.

  • Enable DNSSEC once nameservers are updated to protect against spoofing.

  • Keep your registrar login credentials secure with two-factor authentication.

  • Regularly monitor your DNS configuration using Eurora Cloud’s dashboard.

  • Schedule changes during off-peak hours to minimize impact if issues arise.

Final Thoughts

Changing nameservers is one of the most important steps in setting up your domain with Eurora Cloud. It ensures your traffic flows through our secure, high-performance infrastructure, enabling you to take advantage of advanced features like managed DNS, CDN, DNSSEC, and automated HTTPS.

Though the process may seem technical, following these steps ensures a smooth transition. Once complete, your website benefits from faster response times, stronger security, and improved reliability.

With your domain fully integrated into Eurora Cloud, you are ready to scale your online presence confidently, knowing that every DNS query is resolved securely and efficiently.
